PSHE and SRE for school nurses

Audience:
- Healthcare professionals, medical providers who have a responsibility of teaching PSHE and SRE (sex and relationship education) in the education setting, and any other practitioners who are non-teachers who have responsibility for this training.
Course outline
“The how to guide for teaching SRE and PSHE”. This course helps the holder learn about and develop skills to teach PSHE and SRE in the education setting. It addresses primary and secondary lessons and explores topics and resources to help the holder deliver up to date and meaningful education.
Training topics will include:
- What to teach at what age
- Contraception choices
- Consent
- LGBTQ+.
Learning outcomes:
- To learn a wide range of strategies to improve teaching these topics
- To be confident in teaching different age groups, genders and ability
- To have the skills to develop resources to support teaching.

Louise Howell, Head of HIEDA
Paediatric nurse with experience in children’s A & E, plastics and respiratory care. Health visitor for ten years. Nine years experience in independent school nursing working in a mix of boarding and day school settings. Six years experience as Health centre manager most recently at Wycliffe College.
Lee Glaser, Executive Director, Specialist Services
Lee has extensive experience in pastoral care. Prior to becoming Headmaster and CEO at Taunton School in Somerset he was the School’s Deputy Head which involved leading the pastoral team and being the Designated Safeguarding Lead. Outstanding support for student and staff wellbeing has always been at the heart of his approach and the School was recently shortlisted for a TES Award for excellence in this area.
Lee has always worked closely with the School’s medical team which provided excellent support to the community, particularly during the COVID pandemic. He is excited to be supporting HIEDA members in delivering the highest quality of care in their own environments.
