Approaching Puberty Education: Tackling Tricky Topics with Confidence

Audience Educators of children ages 7-12, as well as anyone interested in gaining skills and knowledge for delivering effective Puberty Education in schools or other educational settings.

Course outline

This course equips participants with the skills and resources necessary to confidently teach puberty education. Through this engaging and interactive session, we will explore age-appropriate strategies for discussing sensitive topics with young learners. The focus will be on fostering a safe and inclusive environment where students can learn about their changing bodies in a respectful and supportive way.

Training topics include:

  • Understanding the developmental milestones of children aged 7-12, with a focus on physical, emotional, and social changes during puberty
  • Best practices for introducing topics like body changes, menstruation, and hygiene in a non-judgmental and clear manner
  • Practical activities and resources to support effective teaching on puberty education
  • How to address common misconceptions and manage difficult or sensitive questions

Learning outcomes:

By the end of the course, participants will:

  • Gain confidence in delivering puberty education to students aged 7-12
  • Understand how to create an inclusive, safe, and respectful environment for discussing puberty
  • Be able to answer tricky or sensitive questions in a professional and appropriate manner

Vicky Walsh

Vicky is a qualified British primary school teacher with over two decades of experience, specialising in coordinating and delivering comprehensive Personal, Social, Health, Citizenship, and Economics Education (PSHCE). She believes this curriculum covers essential topics for children to lead healthy, empowered and well-balanced lives. With a profound passion for Wellbeing and healthy relationships, Vicky has dedicated her career to this field from its inception. Her expertise is honed through extensive training with reputable UK-based organisations such as Working With Men and The Christopher Winter Project. Additionally, Vicky holds accreditation as a member of the ACET UK Esteem Network.

Spanning a wide age range from 4 to 18 years old, Vicky’s vast experience with children in the state, private and international sectors is complemented by her counselling qualification and her interest in holistic healing therapies such as Reiki and yoga, which greatly enrich her interactions with young people.

In her role as a consultant, Vicky excels in coordinating and mentoring educators, conducting workshops for parents, children, and university students, and providing valuable consultation services to schools. Currently, she is actively engaged in delivering the PSHCE programme to students ranging from Years 5 to 13 at St George’s British International School in Rome. With her unwavering dedication, passion and wealth of expertise, Vicky is committed to shaping the next generation with knowledge, understanding and compassion.
