Source: ADHD: Woman’s private diagnosis led to ‘life changing’ medication – BBC News
Jennifer Cousins, diagnosed privately with ADHD, described taking medication as “life-changing.” The 42-year-old from Northern Ireland struggled with impulsivity and concentration for years before recognising traits in herself after family diagnoses. Medication improved her ability to manage daily life, and she now embraces her ADHD, channelling creativity into writing. However, she criticises the lack of commissioned ADHD services in Northern Ireland. Sarah Salters from ADD-NI echoed these concerns, calling the adult ADHD service gap “diabolical,” with many forced to go private. The Department of Health is conducting a needs assessment, but campaigners fear ADHD won’t be prioritised despite rising demand.
